BI CONTINENTAL RACE 2007 05 · 06 · 07 · 08 · 09 · 10

Third Annual Kenya-USA Bi Continental Run
Sunday April 29, 2007 at 9 AM,
Shoreham Wading River High School in Shoreham, Long Island

The Run was a big success! Junior Sean Norberg (SWRHS) was the international winner, with a Time of 17:44, beating the Quickest Kenyan Male, Bernard Waweru(Meru Methodist University), whose time was 20:03. Their fastest woman, Christine Kairuthi (Meru Methodist University), had a time of 22:00; Sharon Connelly (physical trainer at Personal Training Institute in Stony Brook) was the fastest American woman with a time of 24:32.

The Kenyans might have been slowed by the fact that in addition to their runners, they had over 700 walkers, led by the Kenya Prison Band. (I'm not making this up!) Kenyan accountant Henry Kimathi donated $2,000 to the fundraising effort in Kenya, and the rest of the proceeds have yet to be totaled. At SWRHS we and 52 runners. SBU Grad student Mwangi Njagi (from Kenya) was in attendance to help set up the event, and award the medals to our winners. Incidentally, the weather was much better this year!
